Surface & Structural Restoration
Repair of structural cabinet work such as broken and/or loose joints of all types are the staple of antique restoration. Throughout my career I have almost certainly encountered every type of damage that an item of furniture can receive and I am able to return items back to their correct condition. Crucially I restore the mechanical strength of a piece, as well as its visual appearance, so that it can be enjoyed and used for years to come.
Whether the damage is structural or surface (i.e. veneer deterioration including lifting, damage or missing areas) where possible all repairs are always made with matched antique reclaimed timber or time-aged veneers from my extensive collection.
I can produce authentic replications of missing or badly damaged sections, ranging from a full turned or carved leg to a marquetry inlayed and moulded panel. My skills encompass the full range of traditional disciplines needed for any restoration project.
Parquetry, marquetry and Pietra Dura
Repair and replacement of specialist decorative surfaces are one of my main passions and interests. I can replace exotic cuts of veneers embedded in an intricate parquetry design or reproduce the sinuous lines found in the traditional sand singed shading of a marquetry work of art; recut geometric or naturalistic carved, shaped and polished decorative stones or marbles to complete a damaged Pietra Dura design; or reconstruct an intricate inlayed matrix with the use of mother-of-pearl, horn, or synthetic alternatives for turtleshell and ivory. Whatever your piece may require, I can restore your decorative surface to a high standard.
